Canstruction 2005

Canstruction® Vancouver is an amazing design/build competition using canned food and other non-perishable items as building blocks. The Hellenic Community is proud to be part of this worthy project for the third year in a row. This year's event took place on March 6-12 at the Cruise Ship Terminal at Canada Place. The actual building of the structure took place on March 4th and 5th. The Hellenic Community together with the generous support of Scotiabank was able to donate close to 7,000 cans of tuna to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

Below is a description of this year's entry together with a few pictures from the event! Thanks to all those that participated!! A job well done!

TEAM NAME
Warriors of Hunger

TITLE OF SCULPTURE
Spartiotis (Spartan)

DESCRIPTION
“An old man wandering around the Olympic Games struggling
to look for a seat was jeered at by the crowd until he reached
the seats of the Spartans, whereupon every Spartan younger than
him, and some that were older, stood up and offered him their seat.”

The Spartans, a culture of warriors known for their fearlessness
and discipline, were also a society who committed themselves to
truth and humility. Like the Spartans of Ancient Greece, we too
believe in this commitment and offer what we can to those
in need.
